There are plenty of great checklists for what college-bound students need, but here are other things worth considering before they start their adulting journey. That said, there’s shopping to be done! Whether your kid is going to a nearby college or venturing to an out-of-state university, there are must-haves every student needs in their dorm. As students head back to campus life and new freshmen move to their semi-permanent homes, there are never-ending checklists parents have to go through to send their kids off prepared and ready to take over campus life. Sometimes you find some really cool things and pay a fraction of the price for them! Take the opportunity to go when you are at home because Lexington doesn’t have these stores □ You can’t really go into these stores with a specific item in mind, but it never hurts to check them out. I found some cute throw pillows at Marshall’s! I think I bought all of my picture frames from there too. Basically Target is your best friend when it comes to college shopping. I got my rug here too and it worked really well. Pillows, blankets, bedding, decorations, etc. It also had 2 spaces for cube storage containers that I kept miscellaneous items in. I got a little bedside table at IKEA that was actually super functional. Here are some of the key places I went to shop for my college essentials: It’s better to start the year with extra space in your room than be stuck in a place that is already overflowing! You are limited to how much stuff you can bring. ![]() Everything else will fall into place as time goes on.Īlways keep in mind just how small the dorm rooms are. You should be tactical, and focus on the most important things first. Don’t just go down the list that W&L provides online and check it off like buying notebooks for middle school. My biggest piece of advice: dorm shopping is NOT like a school supplies list. ![]()
